This page contains necessary travel information for foreigners coming to Nigeria for the main purpose of the conference. Check out information about Accommodation, Feeding, and Tourism each on their page. Airlines We have received inquiries about airline reservations and flight information. Please refer to information on airlines which fly into Lagos and please avoid booking flights to Kano, Abuja or Port Harcourt. If possible, plan to arrive during the day. If not, plan to sleep over in Lagos. (In that case, you may need close to $100 for feeding and accommodation). As soon as we have flight information of participants, we will be able to arrange to receive you at the airport in Lagos or provide necessary support to ensure that you arrive in Ibadan without much problems. We may also be able to reserve accommodation for participants at the University of Lagos Guest Houses at a very affordable cost. Major airlines flying into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, include Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Bulkan, KLM, Lufthansa, South African Airways, Swissair, Virgin etc. A two-hour journey by car or bus takes one from the airport to Ibadan. The LOC is exploring the possibility of providing this service free. otherswise, it should not cost more than US$10.
Murtala Muhammed Airport The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, now provides much better services. (This information is for the benefit of participants who are familiar with the chaos that once was the norm there). The Airport is safe, immigration and Custom officials are friendly and professional and we do not envisage any difficulties at the airport. This notwithstanding, we intend to work with the officials at the airport to ensure that you have a most wonderful experience. If you have to wait for sometime at the airport, please be free to visit the shops and have some refreshments. Of course, you would be aware of standard security measures at Airports all over the world.
Health Information The University of Ibadan has a College Hospital fifteen minutes away from the main campus. There is also a clinic on the main campus which is open 24 hours. There is no major disease outbreak in Nigeria. Ibadan is particularly stable when it comes to such issues. This notwithstanding, participants are advised to take anti-malaria prophylactic since the conference will be holding during the rainy season. This season is particularly suitable for the breeding of mosquitoes.
Weather We expect the raining season to commence in May. Heavy rains and thunderstorm are normal around August. But if we are lucky, the August break (a rain-free two-week window) will coincide with the period of the conference. Don’t plan on that. We advise you get a raincoat or an umbrella. The weather will be humid and cool.
