 The 24th West African Languages Congress will be held from August 1 - 6, 2004, at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. The theme of the conference is: "GLOBALISATION AND THE FUTURE OF AFRICAN LANGUAGES".

The organisers of the WALC2004 hereby invite papers that address the conference theme, or any other topic relating to West African languages and linguistics.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Syntax, Language use, Morphology, Language acquisition, Phonology, Language learning, Phonetics, Language planning, Semantics, Computational linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Information Science, ICT and (West) African languages, Pragmatics, Language and health: West African languages and the fight against HIV/AIDS, Comparative/Historical linguistics, etc. Papers can be presented in English or French.

 

 In addition, we invite interested participants to organise workshops/symposia on any aspect or topic of interest to them. Any proposals received in this respect will be promptly pasted on our website and announced to all contacts.

 WALC2004 Abstracts: Abstracts may be submitted by email (PDF or postscript attachments as Word documents only) to the following address:  edoid@skannet.com The abstract may be written in English or French. It should be one page maximum, in a 12-point font. Submission by fax is not acceptable.Those without access to email may submit one copy of their abstract on a 3.5 inch diskette (Microsoft Word documents only) to:
